Ellis Planetarium, Health & Science Museum
The 5000-square-foot Health & Science Museum features hands-on health and science exhibits and programs. Exhibits include a giant Operation game, a miniature replica of UNC Lenoir Hospital that children can crawl into and play, an underground tunnel that portrays itself as a human blood vessel, a replica of the mouth, stomach, and intestines where you can crawl. Explore our farm to table room where kids may shop for healthy foods and see where or how local crops are grown. Exhibits change periodically.

North Carolina Maritime Museum
The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort reflects coastal life and interprets lighthouses and lifesaving stations, the seafood industry, motorboats, and more. Studies in marine life, science, and ecology are available for all ages. The Beaufort museum is the repository for artifacts from Blackbeard’s wrecked flagship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, among them cannons, grenades, belt buckles and beads. The Harvey W. Smith Watercraft Center teaches boatbuilding for all ages.

Sylvan Heights Bird Park
Designed to give visitors an unforgettable up-close experience with over 2,000 waterfowl, parrots, toucans, flamingos, and other exotic birds from around the world. Open to the public since October 2006, the 18-acre facility features spacious, walk- through aviaries displaying birds from South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
